Catching Up
Days 9-27, Hours 9-21 of 120 Hours of Yoga
I've missed a few hours of yoga over the last couple of weeks. With my mom in town for my son's birthday, and extra obligations as his school year wraps up, I've missed about 7 days of yoga. I plan on making up the time by doubling up on classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays for a while. I should be caught up within a month.
Some exciting news about my progress: My balance is improving. It's amazing what balancing poses tell you about yourself! I'm stronger in some poses than I would have expected, and not as strong in poses I would have thought I'd be stronger in. Some of my favorite instructors give suggestions for micro-adjustments that really help me to try and move into a better pose. Squeeze your shoulder blades together during eagle pose. Keep your knees parallel while sitting back and twisting your torso to one side, reaching elbow towards opposite thigh. Reach back foot toward the back of the room during toppling-tree pose and squeeze that hamstring and glute.
I'm still wobbly as heck during a lot of the balancing poses. But in the last couple of weeks I've progressed to being able to actually grab my foot and attempt to extend it during dancers pose! I still cannot do a full-locus pose, and I cannot lay backwards while sitting on my knees, but I see the micro-improvements and with consistency I will get there.
The biggest news, however, is that I've moved out from the back left corner! Instead of practicing in the last row, tucked away in the obscure corner, I now lay my towel down on the right side of the room, 3 rows back from the front mirror.
My flip-flops still wait for me, pointed towards the door when I exit class, but I have not felt in any rush to step into them these last couple of weeks.
